General Information

All year round, the Algarve enjoys one of the best climates in Europe.
With only a short period of rainfall (between November and March) and many hours of sunshine (the most in Europe), the Algarve region is blessed with mild temperatures.
It is a region endowed with beaches of fine white sand all along its extensive coastline and a calm sea with water temperatures of around 22°C in the summer.
The daily high temperature in the Algarve varies throughout the year from 15ºC to 31°C and it never falls below zero in the winter.
The average temperature in April is 20ºC. Check here the forecast.

Typical menus may consist of fish and shellfish, with such dishes as Caldeirada de Peixe (fish-stew) or Cataplana de Amêijoas (clams steamed in a copper pan) or the traditional mountain food of stewed chickpeas and cabbage.
Regional delicacies include figs, almonds, carobs and a brandy made from the locally grown Medronho (arbutus-berry) and which is made up in the hills in old copper stills.
